Roy McIlwee Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Logan-Videon Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. - Broomall on Mar. 17, 2026.
Roy Joseph McIlwee, a devout Christian, loving family man, and respected engineer, passed into the arms of his Savior on March 15, 2026, in Broomall, after a valiant battle with Parkinson's disease. Born in Philadelphia on April 3, 1942, to the late Henry and Eleanor (Matrone) McIlwee, Roy's life was a testament to his intelligence, faith-filled spirit, and analytical mind.

Roy's journey through life was one marked by devotion and service. On March 6, 1965, he married his beloved Ruth A. (Chadwick) McIlwee, and together they built a life centered on love, faith, and family. Their union was blessed with three children: Jennifer A. (McIlwee) Myers and her husband, Gary; the late Catherine A. McIlwee; and James Henry McIlwee. Roy's joy multiplied with the arrival of his grandson, Peter Gordon McIlwee and his wife, Elizabeth Kellen McIntire, and his cherished great-grandchildren, Cory James and Isabelle Grace McIlwee. He was a brother to David McIlwee and the late Marie (McIlwee) Hughes, sharing with them the bonds of kinship and memories.

A man of keen intellect, Roy pursued and achieved a Master of Business Administration, which paved the way for a successful career as an engineer in pollution control with Smith Environmental. His work contributed to the betterment of the environment. Roy's professional life was marked by diligence and a commitment to excellence, values that he carried into every aspect of his life.

Roy's Christian faith was the cornerstone of his existence. He was very active with his church, Christ United Methodist Church in Broomall, where he dedicated his time and talents to the Youth Group, taught Sunday School, and enjoyed being involved with the beloved Strawberry Festival. His love for the Lord was evident in the way he lived his life and how he served his church community.

A man of diverse interests, Roy had a passion for the Philadelphia Phillies, classic movies, and was an avid reader with a particular interest in history and theology. He found joy in the intricate world of stamp collecting and was profoundly moved by the power and beauty of the Opera. Roy's support of the Special Olympics spoke to his compassionate nature, and his enjoyment of Bible stories was a reflection of his enduring faith. His taste in music was as rich and varied as his other pursuits, with a special place in his heart for Classical Music.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Saturday, March 21, 2026 from 10:00 to 11:15am at Christ United Methodist Church, 2900 Springfield Rd., Broomall, PA 19008. A Funeral Ceremony will follow in church at 11:30am.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggestions donations be made to Christ United Methodist Church, 2900 Springfield Rd., Broomall, PA 19008.

Roy J. McIlwee's life was a beacon of wisdom, faith, and love. He will be remembered for his analytical approach to life's challenges, his unwavering faith in God, and his ability to inspire those around him.
