Mary Joann Daugherty passed away in her home June 27, 2025, with her loving family by her side. She was born on January 6, 1938, to Joseph N. and Fern A. (Vedder) Smith. Mary was the oldest of nine children.

She married Charles Schweighauser on August 18, 1956, and they had four daughters together, Marsha, Marcella, Carmen, and Tina. Later in life she reunited with Freddie Daugherty, and they were married on July 3, 1994.

Mary was a hard worker on and off the family farm. She worked at General Electric and retired from there after 30 years of employment in 1999.

In her earlier years, Mary enjoyed raising and taking care of cattle and gardening for her family. She enjoyed trips to Wal-Mart and liked reading romance novels in her spare time. She was a loving mother and grandmother. Her most precious time was spent with her kids and grandkids.

Mary was a member of Born Again Church and was a faithful attendee until her health declined.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Joseph and Fern Smith; her brothers, Harold Smith and wife, Muriel, Jesse Smith and wife, Katherine, and Rees Smith; her sister, Joyce Uptegrove; her daughters’ father, Charles Schweighauser; and her husband, Freddie Daugherty.

Mary is survived by her daughters, Marsha Knotts and husband, Mike, Marcella Loftis and husband, Jerry, Carmen Ebert and husband, Jim, and Tina Fox and husband, Ronnie; her grandchildren, Blake Knotts, Elizabeth Olsen, Rebekah Knotts, Michael Paul Knotts, Dustin Fox, Dylan Fox, Ashley Loftis, Hollie Harbison, Timmy Sandheinrich, and Paige Evans; her great-grandchildren, August, Elias, Shiloh, Colton, Remington, Ashley, Sydney, and Mads.

She will be deeply missed by all her family and friends.

The family would like to extend their gratitude and sincere thanks to St. Croix Hospice for the excellent care and support that Mary received.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in her name to Rescue One in Springfield, Missouri, or Safe Haven in Fordland, Missouri.
