Mary Davis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Williams Funeral Home and Burial Services - Wilmington on Jan. 21, 2026.
Mrs. Mary F. Davis, age 80, of Newark, Delaware, passed away on Monday, January 19, 2026 at her home surrounded by her daughters, their husbands, and her beloved baby brother.

She was born in Columbus, Texas, to her father, John Woodard, and mother, Vera Frances (Cottoen) Woodard. Mary was the middle of three children, with one brother, John, 7 years older, and another, Jim, 10 years younger. Mary previously lived in Texas, Newfoundland, Florida, and North Carolina. After being lured to Newark, Delaware, from Texas to be near her grandkids in 2016, she developed a close network of wonderful friends at her Fountainview condo complex.

While attending college at the University of Texas, Mary met Bob Davis, who was from Dallas. After a whirlwind courtship of a few months, they married in 1969.

After working for a time as a vet tech in Texas, she and her husband ran a boarding kennel called Bark 'N Purr Inn out of their home for several years. Mary combined her love of animals with her love of writing through an ongoing column in the Sanger, Texas, newspaper for many years called "Animal Tales.

Mary's biggest passions besides her family were animals and writing. From the time she was small, she was the friend of every pet and stray within reach. As an adult, her life was full of animals, from dogs and cats to horses, donkeys, and rabbits.

In addition to her late parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Robert J. "Bob" Davis who passed in 2010 and her older brother, John Woodard.. She is survived by her two daughters, Kristina Ruth (Kyle Roehrig), and Emily Davis (Alex McKee). Mary doted on her grandkids, Josh, Luke, and Kayla, Oscar and Iris; and her brother, Jim Woodard.

Arrangements have been entrusted into the care of Williams Funeral Home and Burial Services.

Services are private and at the convenience of the family.

To honor her love of animals, in lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to your local or the National ASPCA.

Mary and I had many long conversations about everything under sun. I was her dog walker and we became fast friends. I am so sorry that I didn´t see her recently.
