Mary Frances Davis

Mary Frances Green Davis, age 100, of Fishermans Rd, Norfolk, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 14, 2026. At the time, she was living with her son and daughter in law, John and Cheryl Davis, and was surrounded by family at her passing.

Mary Frances was born in Lead Hill, AR to the late Alva Jewel Green and Carmon Dowell Green. She began her career as a teacher in Lead Hill in 1946 and after marrying Morris in 1948 moved to Norfolk, VA. She taught for Norfolk Public Schools at Crossroads Elementary from 1948-1988, when she retired. She and her husband were members of Brentwood Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school well into her nineties. She spent her retirement years enjoying and caring for family, gathering with friends for lunch, and being active in her church. She loved cooking, sewing, gardening, and spending time with family. Mary Frances was a true Proverbs 31 woman as described in the Bible, "strength and dignity were her clothing" and she was always "looking well to the ways of her household".

Mary Frances was preceded in death by her husband Morris L. Davis, her father Alva and mother Carmon Green of Lead Hill, AR, her sister Guinevere Parish of Fort Worth, TX, her sister, Anna Dora Green of Lead Hill, and her brother Billy James Green of New Orleans, LA. She is survived by her son John Alva Davis (wife Cheryl of Norfolk, VA), two granddaughters, Emily Porter (husband Will) of Norfolk, VA and Jillian Dodson (husband Kyle) of Poquoson, VA, two great grandsons Liam Porter and Jackson Dodson, and three great granddaughters, Evie, Lyla, and Josephine Dodson. She is also survived by nieces Lesa Schwartz and Sharon Parker, and nephews Stan, Greg, and Chris Parish and Marc, Kent, and Van Greene.

The family will receive friends at Holloman-Brown on Sunday, March 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, 8464 Tidewater Drive, Norfolk. A graveside service will be conducted at Forest Lawn Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. Monday March 23, 2026, with reception following at Holloman-Brown.
