Mary Ann DeWit, 93, a life-long resident of Henry County, passed away on July 4, 2025, at her home in Napoleon, Ohio.
She was born in Napoleon, Ohio, on May 18, 1932, to Lester and Renelda Yarnell. She married John Baptist DeWit on July 12, 1951, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Napoleon, Ohio.
John preceded her in death in 1993. An infant daughter, Mary DeWit, preceded her in death in 1952.
Mary Ann graduated from Napoleon High School in 1950. Mary Ann found joy in visiting with friends and family and helping people. She visited nursing homes with her dog and brought joy to the residents for many years.
She enjoyed her many car trips with John, as they visited their two children in Oregon, California and Florida. She was a 4-H Leader for many years. She lived 25 winters in Clermont, Florida, and enjoyed her many friends and bingo.
She was active in ministry work at St. Patrick's Catholic Church (Grand Rapids, Ohio) and St. Augustine's Catholic Church (Napoleon) in later years.
Survivors include one son and one daughter, Michael (Mary Beth) DeWit of Napoleon, Ohio, and Diane (Greg) Hemsoth of St. Augustine, Florida.
Mary Ann was the oldest of four children. Two brothers, Daniel and Thomas, preceded her in death. One sister, Suzanne (Yarnell) (Andy) Gillies, survives.
She also leaves four grandchildren: Ben (Breezy) DeWit, Adam (Whitney) DeWit, Jessica (Vamsi) Rao and Jenifer (Dewey) Lee.
She adored her five great-grandchildren, Karys DeWit, Kamden DeWit, Ashwin Rao, Brooks DeWit and Carter DeWit.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at Rodenberger-Gray Funeral Home, Napoleon, from 10 a.m., until 11 a.m. A funeral Mass will take place immediately following the visitation at 11:30 a.m., at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Napoleon, with Father Jerry Schetter officiating. Interment will follow at the St. Augustine Catholic Cemetery, State Route 108, Napoleon, Ohio. A luncheon will be held for family and friends in the St. Augustine Parish Hall following the burial.
Memorial donations may be given to the St. Augustine Catholic Church or the Henry County Humane Society, both of Napoleon, Ohio.
