Mary Catherine Dizonno Fitch

Mary Catherine Dizonno Fitch, age 79, of Round Lake Beach, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Mother's Day, May 11, 2025.
Born on December 29, 1945, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Leona and Daniel Dizonno, Mary moved to Round Lake Beach in 1971. There, she made her home for over 50 years-building a life rooted in family, faith, and community.
Mary was a devoted daughter, mother, grandmother, and friend, known for her strength, loyalty, and warm heart. A woman of deep faith, she was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Round Lake Beach, where she found both comfort and connection.
She enjoyed selling Avon for many years and worked at the Grayslake Library, where she proudly earned her GED and advanced to managing interlibrary loans until she retired. Mary found joy in life's simple pleasures: bowling, playing cards and bingo with friends, planting flowers each spring, and participating in the local historical society.
Even after becoming legally blind, she remained determined to stay connected with loved ones, faithfully baking cranberry bread and sending Christmas cards to family and friends each year with a handwritten letter.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Johanna Roady (Marc Sonkin) and Jenn Frederick, and her beloved granddaughters, Megan Roady and Rachel Roady. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leona and Daniel Dizonno.
She was also deeply grateful for the friendship and support of Sandy Daily, who stood by her side and brought comfort, laughter, and companionship throughout the final years of her life.
Mary will be laid to rest with the ashes of her cherished dog, Lily, who passed away six months earlier. Their bond was unbreakable, and now they will be together again.
She will be remembered for her love of family, her resilience, and her generous spirit. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
The Celebration of Life for Mary will be held on Sunday, June 22, 2025, from 1-4 pm at Pop's Pizza & Sports Bar, 817 E. Nerge Road, Roselle, IL 60172.
