POUGHKEEPSIE – Mary A. Ejercito, 88, an area resident since 1977, passed away peacefully at home on June 23, 2024. She previously lived in Worcester, MA, St. Joseph, MO, and Manila, Philippines.
Born in Clinton, MA on July 24, 1935, Mary was the daughter of the late Roy and Mary (Burke) Devaney. She was a 1952 graduate of Ascension High School in Worcester, MA and earned her BA in English from Marist College in Poughkeepsie in 1969. She was a student nurse at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester, MA where she met the love of her life, Emilio M. Ejercito.
In 1998, she retired from Dutchess Physiatrics in Poughkeepsie as office manager after 21 years of service. She was past President of the Dutchess County Medical Society Ladies Auxiliary.
Mary enjoyed traveling the world. She also liked reading and playing the piano, as well as dining out and going dancing with family and friends.
On December 6,1953 in Worcester, MA, Mary married Emilio Ejercito who predeceased her in 1999. Mary was a loving and inspiring mother to Michael Ejercito (Gerrianne), Marilyn Ejercito (Fiancé Sean Moore), Elizabeth Siwicki (Ken) and Joan Chrysler (John); grandmother to Michelle Riemer (Dan), Leanne Siwicki, Brian Siwicki, Steven Siwicki, Caroline Chrysler, Danielle Chrysler, and Kristen Chrysler; and great-grandmother to John Michael Guarino and Emily Guarino. In addition to her husband and parents, Mary was also predeceased by her brother, Rev. Roy J. Devaney, Jr.
The family extends their sincere gratitude to her loving caregiver, Margaret Miller, Hudson Valley Hospice, and the medical professionals who cared for her at the Heart Center in Poughkeepsie.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 3-7 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday at 9:30 am at St. Martin de Porres Church, 118 Cedar Valley Road, Poughkeepsie followed by entombment at St. Peter's Cemetery.
