Gautam R. Mirchandani, MD, 51, a resident of Stamford, CT and formerly of Fishkill, NY, died unexpectedly on October 11, 2025 after his vehicle became submerged in the Connecticut River. He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, strength, wit, and for the great joy that he took in the happiness of others.
Born in Staten Island on January 29, 1974, he was the beloved son of Ramesh and Vasanti (Chablani) Mirchandani and beloved and admired older brother of Bhakti Mirchandani. Gautam was valedictorian of John Jay High School and received his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Yale University in 1994, and his Doctor of Medicine with Distinction in Microsurgery from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 2000. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine, Primary Care Program at Yale-New Haven Hospital in 2001, and his residency in radiology at Norwalk Hospital-Yale School of Medicine in 2005. He then completed his fellowship in Neuroradiology at Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital in 2006.
Gautam began his career as a neuroradiologist at Griffin Hospital. He also served as the Program Director of Neuroradiology at New York-Methodist Hospital, as a Radiologist for New York Radiology Alliance at Bronx Lebanon Hospital, and as a Radiologist for XRA Medical Imaging. He was an Assistant Professor of Clinical Radiology at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center and at SUNY Downstate, Kings County Hospital Center. As a published radiologist, Gautam was instrumental in many research projects, served on numerous committees, presented many lectures, and was honored with several awards.
Gautam excelled at tennis, running, classical piano, and painting before multiple sclerosis took them from him one-by-one. He loved traveling, hiking, skiing, art museums, the opera-all of which multiple sclerosis also took-dogs, his alma mater Yale, and especially the music of Beethoven. He found many ways to shower his whole family, especially his niece Anika, with love. The last decades of his life were an example of quiet courage, determination, and strength in the face of adversity.
Gautam is survived by his parents, Ramesh and Vasanti; his sister, Bhakti; his niece, Anika; and a close and loving extended family.
Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4-7pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc. 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction.
Memorial donations may be made for a scholarship at Yale in Gautam's name. Details forthcoming.

Gautam started his fellowship at New York Presbyterian Hospital, one year after I completed my two years fellowship in Neuroradiology at the same institution. I left Columbia for a couple of years and returned to join him on staff as Assistant Professor. He was a good colleague, friend and a kind human being that will take off his shirt to cover you. I will miss him dearly.

Gautam and I were co-residents together in Radiology residency for 4 years. I knew him well and he was a kind and generous man, I was shocked to hear about his tragic death. I will pray for him and his family and friends. Truly shocking me to my core.
