Stuyvesant
Cheryl Johnson, a beloved member of her family and community, passed away on October 15, 2025, at Columbia Memorial Hospital after a brief stay. Born on June 21, 1962, in Poughkeepsie, NY, Cheryl's journey through life was characterized by her kindness, love, and caring spirit, traits that endeared her to all who knew her.
Cheryl attended John Jay High School in Hopewell Junction, NY, where she partook in the All-State Choir, creating unforgettable memories that included a remarkable pillow fight filled with feathers flying everywhere. Her passion for music was evident throughout her life, with particular affection for artists such as Jelly Roll and Katy Perry.
Cheryl's professional career began with a notable 28-year tenure at Grand Union, and a few several other jobs before concluding her working years at Price Chopper in Chatham. She approached her work with a strong sense of commitment, always striving to provide for her family.
She had a unique and charming affinity for gardening, possessing what she referred to as a reverse green thumb-starting with vibrant flowers and gardens that would gradually fade as the seasons changed. This aspect of her personality showed her ability to find humor in situations.
Cheryl's life was filled with experiences that brought joy and laughter. She was a member of the North Chatham ladies auxiliary. She loved thrifting trips with her with her husband, Michael, where shenanigans and laughter were a constant, as well as shopping excursions to Walmart with Karyn, that often ended in delightful storytelling. Most of all, Cheryl's greatest pride lay in her family. She cherished her grandchildren, finding profound joy in the moments spent with them.
In her passing, Cheryl leaves behind her loving mother, Sylvia McGarry, her devoted husband, Michael Noel; Son, David Miller, and daughter, Karyn Johnson, her cherished grandchildren, Michael and Samantha Miller. She is also, lovingly remembered by her brother, Ralph Johnson. Cheryl joins her father, William McGarry, and her late son, Jeffery Miller, in eternal rest.
A graveside service for Cheryl will take place on October 20, 2025, starting at 1:00 PM at the North Chatham Cemetery located on County Route 32. The family invites all who knew and loved her to honor her memory and celebrate the remarkable life she lived. Cheryl Johnson will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for her warm heart and the laughter she shared with those around her.
