Mary Ellen McGowen Eubanks, 93, of Rogersville, Missouri, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2025 at Copper Rock Village Nursing Home.
Mary was born in Rogersville, Missouri on May 31, 1931 to the late Elva and Sarah Ellen (Thompson) McGowen. She is preceded in death by her four brothers Eugene McGowen, Louis McGowen, Richard McGowen and William McGowen and her sister, Patsy McGowen Boardman.
The family lived in the Marshfield and Rogersville areas until they moved to Lancaster, CA in 1941. In 1946 they moved back to the Rogersville area where Mary attended Rogersville Schools. She worked many places in the Springfield area including Zales, St Johns (now Mercy), Deskin Scale and Anheuser-Busch in bookkeeping finishing her working career at Anberry Nursing Center in Atwater, CA as an LVN. While at the nursing home, she loved asking the nurses if she could "show them how to do their job" with a smirk on her face. She also loved telling stories of her Mardi Gras experiences when she lived in Louisiana, playing bingo and putting puzzles together.
She was a wonderful lady that will be missed by many.
She is survived by her daughter, Joyce (Dewitt) Humble and her husband Jerry of Rogersville, her son, Brett DeWitt of Eustis, Florida, a sister-in-law, Laurel Morris-McGowen, Merced, CA, a brother-in-law, John Boardman of Utah; six grandchildren, Julie Shaw and her husband Sam of Rogersville, Randy Jackson and his wife Jennifer of Benton, KY, Shane DeWitt of Long Beach, MS, Christie Montanez, Merced, CA, William DeWitt, Ash Grove, MO, and Xena DeWitt, Glendale, AZ; six great-grandchildren, her nieces and nephew along with many life-long friends.
A celebration of life graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at Palmetto Cemetery, Rogersville, Missouri.
The family would like to thank the staff of Copper Rock Village nursing home and Good Shepherd Hospice for their wonderful help and support.
Donations may be made to Copper Rock Village Activity Fund, 712 Copper Rock Drive, Rogersville, MO 65742 or Good Shepherd Hospice, 3250 S National Ave, Springfield, MO 65807.
