Mary Ruth Ann "Ruthie" McClellan Ferris, age 90, of Copper Canyon, Texas, passed away Saturday, December 6, 2025.

Ruthie was born October 2, 1935, in South Sulphur, Texas, to parents, Herbert McClellan and Minnie Jewell Fox McClellan. Ruthie attended and graduated from Commerce High School where she was the Drum Major of the marching band, an All-State Flute Player, and a member of JROTC. She attended East Texas State University and was a member of the marching band, Tooanoowe Sorority, and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Education in 1956. Then attended and graduated from North Texas State University earning a Master's Degree in Education in 1973. Married Bill Ferris in 1958 in Dallas, Texas. Joined the First United Methodist Church in Lewisville, Texas in 1965 and was a devoted active member involved in bible study, teaching Sunday school and vacation bible school, Dorcas member, handbell choir, and other church activities. Ruthie was an educator for over 40 years teaching second grade in the Lewisville Independent School District and serving as Student Teacher Supervisor with Texas A&M University for LISD. Was an active and lifetime member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Phi Delta Kappa. She also taught Calligraphy as well. She attended and supported the Lewisville Fighting Farmers and numerous other LISD events. Ruthie's interests and hobbies included Music and attending concerts, church activities and functions, watching marching bands and football games, visiting with family and friends, growing flowers (4-foot-tall Zinnias), enjoying nature, snow skiing, Calligraphy and reading her bible. Ruthie was an incredible person, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, and devoted Christian and loved Jesus her whole life.

Ruthie was preceded in death by her husband Bill Ferris and survived by daughter Janice D. Ferris Staley and husband, Jim; Son, Eric D. Ferris and Wife Sheri; step son, Michael D. Ferris and wife Judy; grandchildren, Sarah Ruth Staley, Laura Renee Staley Guidry, Lindsey Ferris Guidinger, Anna Ferris Martinez, William Justin Lake; and 5 great grandchildren.

A service to celebrate Ruthie's life will be held at 10:00a.m. Friday, December 12, 2025, at First United Methodist Church in Lewisville. Interment will follow at Old Hall Cemetery in Lewisville. The family will receive friends from 9:00 to 9:45a.m. at First United Methodist Church before the main service on Friday, December 12, 2025. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that memorial contributions be made to First United Methodist Church in Lewisville.
