With hearts full of love and gratitude, we celebrate the beautiful life of Mary Ann Finnegan (nee Cavanaugh), a devoted wife, mother, Mimi, sister, daughter, nurse, and friend. She passed peacefully surrounded by her family, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, faith, and unwavering love.
The matriarch of our family, Mary Ann lived her life in service to others. A nurse by profession and by nature, she cared deeply for her patients, colleagues, and everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her compassion extended far beyond the walls of the hospital - she embodied the words of John D. Lankenau: "A life you live for others is a life not lived in vain." Her dedication and empathy inspired countless nurses and staff who looked up to her throughout her career.
Mary Ann was the oldest of seven children and a devoted daughter who lovingly cared for her mother and father untilthey'd passed. Her sense of duty and care radiated through every part of her life - whether she was tending to her family, her friends, or her faith.
She found joy in life's simple pleasures - a warm cup of tea, a good Danielle Steele novel, or a Hallmark movie that she'd seen a dozen times but still loved just as much. She had a special fondness for The Christmas Tree Shop and never missed a chance to spend that Kohl's cash that was "just burning a hole in her pocket" - usually on someone else.
Her home at 747 Foss Ave. was the heart of countless gatherings, especially at Christmastime, her favorite season. She made every holiday magical, from the twinkling lights to the homemade meals shared around the table. She created cherished family traditions, including annual trips to The Nutcracker and cozy evenings listening to Tchaikovsky's timeless score - memories her children now hold dear.
In retirement, Mary Ann found her greatest joy in being "Mimi," delighting in every moment spent with her grandchildren. She laughed often and fully with her husband Peter, her partner of 55 wonderful years. Together, they filled their home - and many others - with warmth, laughter, and love. Mary Ann was the consummate entertainer, always ready to host, to feed, and to welcome anyone through her open door - including the occasional stranger Peter brought home.
She cherished her winters in Florida, spending time with her siblings, enjoying sunshine-filled days, and walking in the pool - her favorite form of exercise. In her later years, she lovingly referred to herself as the "Longport Taxi Service," happily carting her grandchildren around town.
Through her faith, friendship, and endless generosity, Mary Ann touched countless lives. She was a great friend, a loving neighbor, and a steady presence for all who knew her. Her love was boundless, her laughter contagious, and her kindness unmatched.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her husband Peter, her children, grandchildren, siblings, extended family, and the many friends whose lives she brightened.
Mary Ann loved to quote Mister Rogers' gentle wisdom: "Look for the helpers" she would say. How fortunate we all are that, in her lifetime, we never had to look far - for Mary Ann was one of them.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Visitation Saturday, November 8, 2025 9:30am Epiphany Church, 2801 Ventnor Ave. Longport, NJ 08403 and to her Funeral Mass 11:00am in the Church. Int. Private.
