Mary Joe Fowler, 90, died February 21, 2023. A native of Hot Springs, AR she graduated from Hot Springs High School in 1950. After graduation she worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 44 years before retirement. Her hobbies included being a voracious reader and patron of the Hot Springs Library, growing flowers, entering sweepstakes/contests, collecting stamps, and donating to non-profit charitable organizations. Mary Joe was the definition of resilience having beat three different types of cancer and recovered from a stroke. Her sense of humor and witty banter brought a smile to all who knew her. She was the backbone of her family and a priceless aunt for her niece and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother Elvia L. Crowder, her beloved sisters Norma Jean Fowler and Ann Murray, nephews Andrew C. Austin and Michael Murray. She is survived by her niece Dr. Heidi E. Austin, who served as her legal guardian in the final years of her life. Special thanks to Amber Wilson Shelton who was lovingly Mary Joe's best friend in her final years. Gratitude to Hospice Home Care and Fortress Living Care Home for the care they provided.
A private memorial was held with burial in Morning Star Cemetery.
