Mary Fuhrman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wetzel Funeral Home - Hanover on Dec. 8, 2025.
Mary Jane (Heiser) Fuhrman, age 93 was called for her final journey on Monday, December 8, 2025 at UPMC Pinnacle Hanover.

Born June 12, 1932 at her home in Penn Township, Hanover PA, she was the daughter of Mary and Morris Heiser and sister of Earl Heiser. She attended Center Street grade school for 8 years and graduated from Eichelberger Senior High School – class of 1950.

She shared 59 years of marriage to Glenn Sowers Fuhrman. As a loyal member of Grace U.C.C. on Fourth Street in Hanover PA for more than 60 years, she got the opportunity to serve in many projects. As chairperson of the Resource Committee she promoted many great projects such as bus trips, afternoon teas, candy, pies, yard sales and that delicious homemade peanut brittle. She was also active in Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, Ladies of Grace and Grace Seniors as well as the church choir.

She loved the gift of meeting people and was given the opportunity of doing so by being a 25 year member of the Hanover Community Singers and a volunteer of the Eichelberger Performing Arts Center as well as organizing lots of bus travel. Her business, Balloons Instead gave folks the desire to rename her as "The Balloon Lady".

She is survived by her four children, Michael A. Fuhrman and Soie Ju of Clifton, NJ, Mark D. Fuhrman and his wife, Mary Ellen of Woodstock, GA, Gregory L. Fuhrman and his wife, Tess of Hanover, and Jennifer J. Edelin and her husband, Scott of York plus 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Beaches and shore birds called to her. Flowers had to have her hands on them. She truly cherished being here and thanks God for the opportunity.

Following cremation, services will be private at the convenience of the family. Final resting place will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Hanover.
