Mary Elizabeth Garcia-Linen

Mary Elizabeth Garcia-Linen, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2025, in Newport News, Virginia at the age of 86. Born on December 25, 1938 in Charleston, South Carolina, she was a beacon of love and positivity to all who knew her.
Mary dedicated much of her life to her work as a housekeeper at Patrick Henry Mall. Her true passions, however, lay in her faith and family. A devoted member of Regeneration Outreach Christian Center, Mary found joy in attending services and participating in missionary work. She loved solving puzzles and word searches, often sharing these moments with her grandchildren over lunch, especially enjoying Chinese food. Her evenings were frequently spent watching gospel programs on television, which brought her great comfort and inspiration.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mariah Linen; her husband Carlos Garcia Reyes; her sisters, Josephine Robinson, Ida Mae Linen, and Jaunita Williams; and her brothers, John Linen and James Linen. She is survived by her loving daughters, Vivian Buggs (Peter) and Gloria McCorory; her brother, Arthur Linen; her sister, Janie Linen; and her cherished grandchildren, Francena McCorory, Felicia Knox, Robert McCorory, Roberta McCorory, Martice McCorory, Shameka McCorory, Eugene Linen, Loria McCorory, and Keithan Buggs. She also leaves behind her honorary daughters, Rosa Buggs and Sharnice Keelig, a host of great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary's life was a testament to kindness and encouragement. She always had an encouraging word and a positive outlook, touching the lives of everyone she met with her unwavering optimism.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Mary's life at Altmeyer Funeral Home - Denbigh Chapel on Saturday, May 31, 2025. Visitation will be held from 11am to 1pm, followed by a service at 1pm.
