Indiana Funeral Care - IndianapolisMary (Pat) Patricia Gnall 91 - was born in Brooklyn, New York on May 15, 1934, She was the eldest daughter of Phyllis (MacDonald) and Thomas Carmody. She passed away on Friday August 15, 2025 after a long battle with Alzheimer's,
After graduating from Dunmore High School in 1952, Mary started work at Bell Telephone as an operator. She eventually was picked, along with a few coworkers, to travel around the area to demonstrate a new technology - direct long-distance dialing. She was introduced to her soon-to-be husband, Robert, through a friend, They were married on February 11, 1956
Mary was a housewife until her youngest daughter started school. She went back to work as a phone operator for the trucking company Schilli Transportation in Remington, Indiana. By the time of her retirement in 1999 she had become the Vice President of the Van Division based in Indianapolis.
In retirement she and her husband Bob enjoyed attending Colts games - which they had season tickets to for 28 years. They also enjoyed traveling to visit (and babysit) grandchildren as well as attend their grandchildren's activities. They were also active in their churches, including St. Louis de Montfort in Fishers. Mary was active in the St. Ann's Guild and helped with funeral meals.
Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, Robert, in 2014. She was also preceded in death by her parents, sister, brother and son.
She is survived by her two daughters Patrice Picard and Kathy Peele. She is also survived by her son-in-law John, 5 grandchildren Patrick Gnall, Jeff (Patrick) Picard, Jeremy (Megan) Picard, Rachel and Christopher Peele, and one great-grandchild, Olivia Picard.
Mary's family wishes to pass along their thanks and appreciation to the staff at both Sunrise on Old Meridian in Carmel and Hamilton Trace in Fishers for their loving care and support over the last 3 years. Also a special thanks to her hospice nurse Autumn for her care the last few months.
In lieu of flowers her family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer's society to help fund research to understand and treat this debilitating disease.
