Mary Theresa Gormley (nee Moran), age 83, of Havertown, PA, passed away on November 30, 2024. Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late William F. and Margaret Moran (nee Kelly).
Mary was the beloved wife of William J. Gormley; loving mother of Kathleen M. Scanlon (the late Michael), William J. Gormley, Jr. (Joan), Carol Dooling, Charles E. Gormley (Diane), Thomas M. Gormley (Christine), and Stephen G. Gormley (Sheila); adoring grandmother of Kellie, Michael, William J. III, Catherine, Anne, John, Jaclyn, Alysse, Michael, Charles, Shannon, Thomas, Caroline, Erin, Kevin, and Caitlin; caring great-grandmother of Everly and Daniel; devoted sister of William J. Moran (Kate), John P. Moran (the late Joyce), Edward F. Moran (Virginia), and Kevin T. Moran (Ellie). Also survived by her nieces and nephews, Mary Kay, Michael, Matt, Kevin, Lauren Mary, Kaitlin, Meredith, Allison, Dean, Kacy, Jay, Beth, Andrew, and Kate.
Mary was a graduate of West Catholic High School. She later earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Gwynedd Mercy University and Master’s Degree from Marywood University. She devoted 19 years of her life as a Sister of Mercy, embodying compassion and selflessness. While she worked at St. Katherine’s Day School, Mary become a special education teacher, a role she embraced with dedication and care for over 20 years. She touched the lives of countless students and their families, offering them support, encouragement, and the tools to thrive. She was especially passionate about helping children with Down Syndrome. Mary also served as principal at both St. Michael’s in Levittown and St. Helena’s in Blue Bell.
Mary loved two special islands, Ireland, where her parents were born and Sea Isle City, NJ, where she enjoyed many summers with Family.
Relatives and friends are invited to Mary’s Viewing on Sunday, December 8, 2024, from 4:00-7:00 PM, at The Donohue Funeral Home, 8401 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA 19082, followed by her Funeral Mass on Monday, December 9, 2024 at 10:30 AM at Annunciation BVM Church, 401 Brookline Blvd, Havertown, PA 19083. Interment SS Peter & Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mary’s name to Sisters of Mercy McAuley Convent, 515 Montgomery Ave, Merion Station, PA 19066, sistersofmercy.org, would be appreciated.
