Mary E. Grourke, 73, of Bear Creek, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 12, 2025.
Born Oct. 12, 1951, in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late Robert Vincent and Amelia Rose Sharkey Wiegner.
Mary was a graduate of West Philadelphia Catholic Girls High School. She dedicated her life to caring for her family.
Mary enjoyed crafting and selling ceramics at local arts and crafts fairs. She was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of Saint Elizabeth in Bear Creek, where she was involved with the CCD and sacramental programs for many years.
Her husband, Michael J. Grourke, died on July 2, 2019. Her son, John VanMeter; granddaughter, Melissa Veneziano; and brother, John Wiegner also preceded her in death.
Her children, Jacqueline VanMeter of Kingston; Kelly and her husband, Marc Hinkle, of Forty Fort; Michael J. Grourke III, of Bear Creek; and Erin Grourke of Bear Creek; daughter-in-law, Bridget VanMeter of Wilkes-Barre Township; grandchildren, Dianna Venenziano, Natalie VanMeter, Aaron Mason, Karlie Klocko, Hannah Hinkle and Bryce Hinkle; several great-grandchildren; and other family and friends will miss her very much.
Celebration of Mary's life begins Tuesday, June 17, 2025, with visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. at McLaughlin's, 142 S. Washington St., Wilkes-Barre. It continues there on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, with gathering at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in the Church of St. Elizabeth in Bear Creek.
Donations to St. Elizabeth's Parish, P.O. Box 25, Bear Creek, 18602, are preferred and will honor Mary's memory.
