Mary Lou Guth

Mary Lou Guth, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on Sunday, October 15, 2023, at Apostolic Christian Home in Eureka, IL. Born on June 26, 1931, in East Peoria, Mary was the cherished daughter of Perry and Jenny Wallace Arnold. She married Ronald C. Guth on October 7, 1951, at Bethany Missionary Church in East Peoria. He preceded her in death, along with two sisters, Dorothy Sweeney and Evelyn Burdsall preceded her in death.
She is survived by her five children: Pat (Dave) Getz of Tempe, AZ; Joan (Dave) Gifford of Maryland Heights, MO; John (Sally) Guth of Washington, IL; David (Tina) Guth of Chandler, AZ; and Carol (Darrin) Doss of Washington, IL. Mary's legacy also lives on in her 17 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, who will remember her fondly.
Known for her loving, kind, and faith-filled nature, she was an avid bowler and participated in a bowling league in Washington, demonstrating her competitive spirit and love for camaraderie. Mary also volunteered at the Et Cetera Thrift Shop in Eureka, IL, where she was known for her warm smile and helpful nature. As a member of Calvary Community Church in Washington, she sang in the choir and was involved with the Women in Mission, reflecting her deep faith and commitment to service.
Mary's love for nature was evident in her passion for gardening. Her garden was a testament to her nurturing spirit, blooming with flowers and plants she tended to with great care. She also had a knack for hosting family dinners, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere that brought everyone together. These gatherings were a testament to her love for her family and her ability to create lasting memories.
Private graveside services for Mary will be held at Hillcrest Memory Gardens in rural Morton, with Pastor Clayton Tinervin officiating. A celebration of Mary's life will be held at a later date, allowing family and friends to come together to share stories and honor her memory. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Apostolic Christian Home in Eureka or to the Eureka Et Cetera Thrift Shop.
