Mary Hange Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Anders-Detweiler Funeral Home & Crematory - Souderton on Nov. 25, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Mary (Landis) Hange, 88, of Souderton, Pennsylvania; formerly of Hilltown Township, Blooming Glen, Red Lake (Ontario), and Sellersville, went home to be with her Lord unexpectedly on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at Souderton Mennonite Homes.

She was the devoted wife of Lee Durrell Hange, who lovingly shared that "we had a beautiful life together" throughout their 67 years of marriage.

Born in Hatfield, Pennsylvania, Mary was the daughter of the late Elmer S. Landis and the late Kathryn M. (Alderfer) Landis.

Mary attended Hilltown High School and began her working years as a seamstress at the former Sunlite Shop in Souderton. She and Durrell later served together as missionaries with the former Northern Light Gospel Mission (now Living Hope Native Ministries) in Red Lake, Ontario. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Mary also worked in home health care for several Bucks County organizations.

A faithful member of Line Lexington Mennonite Church, Mary served wherever she was needed-as a Sunday school teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher, elder, women's ministry leader, and representative for Mennonite Mutual Aid/Everence. She also volunteered at the Care & Share Thrift Shoppes in Souderton.

Mary was known for her radiant smile that reflected the love and the warmth she brought wherever she was. She loved baking, especially her apple pie, cinnamon buns, and oatmeal bread. She was an avid sewer and loved flower gardening and collecting Old English teacups. She cherished time with her family and welcomed friends, relatives, and international guests into her home. She also enjoyed traveling nationally and internationally with her husband and took frequent day trips to Lancaster.

She will be remembered for her strong faith and as an encourager. She was a kind, generous, gentle, joyful, hospitable woman who was always ready to help. Many knew her as a caring listener and an informal phone counselor.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Roy D. Hange & wife, Maren of Charlottesville, VA, K. Arlene Helfrich & husband, John of Souderton, PA, Wendy S. Landes & husband, R. Scott of Perkiomenville, PA, and Donna L. Martin & husband, Robert of Gilbertsville, PA.

She is also survived by her ten grandchildren-Karina, Kristopher, Lukas, Michael, Nathan, Karen, Andre, Sierra, Benjamin, and Casey; her ten great-grandchildren-Brayden, Brooklyn, Conner, Addy, Allison, Charley, Maverick, Avery, Jade, and Elias; her sister, Sara Halteman & husband, Paul of Sellersville, PA; and her brother Jake Landis & wife, Ruth of Greencastle, PA.

She was preceded in death by her parents and six brothers: James, Paul, John, Elmer, Mark, and Daniel Landis.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM at Line Lexington Mennonite Church, 80 Hilltown Pike, Line Lexington, PA 18932, followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 AM.

Burial will be private at the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Living Branches Foundation c/o Souderton Mennonite Agape Fund, 275 Dock Drive, Lansdale, PA 19446 or Line Lexington Mennonite Church, 80 Hilltown Pike, Line Lexington, PA 18932 or Mennonite Central Committee, 21 S. 12th Street, Akron, PA 17501 (https://mcc.org)
