Mary Hanson Obituary
Mary A. Hanson, 99, Detroit Lakes, MN, died Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at Essentia Health-St. Mary's Hospital in Detroit Lakes.
Mary Ann Hovland was born June 17, 1925, in Northwood, ND, and grew up on a farm close to town, attending school and graduating there. As a young woman she moved to Fargo, ND and attended Interstate Business College. On August 22, 1948, Mary was united in marriage to Adelbert “Del” Hanson of Fargo and for many years resided in Fargo/Moorhead. Mary's career path had her working for the State of Minnesota at Moorhead Technical College and later at Moorhead High School.
In retirement Mary and Del moved to their favorite place in the area, Detroit Lakes, and there they enjoyed family, friends and lake living. Mary is survived by her one daughter, Claudia (David) Welte of Detroit Lakes; two sons, Craig (Robin) Hanson of Fort Walton Beach, FL, and Chad (Julia) Hanson of Detroit Lakes; three grandchildren, Brandon Welte of Minneapolis, MN, Kelli Hanson of Nashville, Tennessee, and Chad "C.J." (Kaila) Hanson of Detroit Lakes; and one sister, Ruth Dianne Jewell of Woodbury, MN.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Del.
A Celebration of Mary's Life will be held in the Spring.
