Mary Ann Hatch

Mary Ann (Wulfekuhle) Hatch, 95, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Friday, March 28, 2025, at her home. She was born on May 21, 1929, in rural Greeley, the daughter of Raymond and Josephine (Thurn) Wulfekuhle. Mary Ann attended a one room country school until 8th grade and then was a 1946 graduate of Edgewood High School. She then graduated from Mount Mercy College with a degree in Nursing.
On July 2, 1955, Mary Ann was united in marriage to Chester "Chet" Hatch at St. Mark Catholic Church in Edgewood. Four children were born to this union. Together they farmed south of Edgewood until 1970 when they moved to Manchester. Mary Ann worked as a nurse for Dr. Anderson in Strawberry Point, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home, and the Delaware County Memorial Hospital. She was hired as the West Delaware High School nurse and helped with the Dundee, Greeley, and Ryan schools until their closings. She retired from nursing in 1991 after 22 years.
Mary Ann was a longtime member of St. Mary Catholic Church. She was an active member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and served as Regent. Family was important to Mary Ann and she took great pride in answering questions concerning the family tree. She loved attending her grandsons' activities throughout their school years. Mary Ann enjoyed planting her garden and canning her produce. She also was a talented seamstress and enjoyed reading. Mary Ann was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Chicago Cubs.
Survivors include her four children, David Hatch of Manchester, Kathleen Michaels of Marion, Patricia "Trish" (John) LeClere and Cheryl "Cheri" (Randy) Taylor all of Manchester; and three grandsons, Andrew LeClere, Brad LeClere, and Scott Taylor.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Chet Hatch; grandson, Jacob Taylor; and son-in-law, Donald Michaels.
