Our beloved mother, Mary Colleen Hutchings Healey (Edwards), age 91, of
Orem, Utah, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2026, surrounded by the family she loved so deeply.
Colleen was born on July 12, 1934, in
Beaver, Utah, to Osmond George Hutchings and Margaret "Maggie" Edwards Hutchings. Shortly after her birth, her mother passed away, and Colleen was lovingly raised by her grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Farnsworth Edwards. Grandma Mary was Colleen's anchor until her passing in January of 1949, when Colleen was just 14 years old. At that time, she was warmly welcomed into the home of her uncle, Philo T. Edwards, and his wife, Addie May Gurr, who lovingly raised her alongside their thirteen children.
She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1952, where she loved sports. She played basketball and softball, and held down first base on the Lincoln High School team. She was also the "hottest" member of the Tigerettes.
Colleen worked at the Scera Theatre, where she loved seeing the neighborhood kids come through for a movie and a treat. It was there, on a cold December night in 1950, that her life changed forever. While selling popcorn and candy at the counter, a handsome, dark-haired young man walked in. When she asked what he would like, he smiled and replied, "Well I'd like to take you home." That young man was Bob Healey. After Bob completed two years of service in the Army, they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on September 4, 1953.
More than anything in this world, our mother wanted to be a wife and a mother-and there was no one better suited to that calling. She poured her whole heart into her family and was the loving mother of eight beautiful children-six sons and two daughters-always making room for one more at the table, in her home, and in her heart.
Colleen was an incredible cook, a talented seamstress, and a true homemaker. Her home was always warm, welcoming, and filled with love. Later in life, she returned to school at Salt Lake Community College, earning her certification as a court reporter and legal secretary. She worked for the law firm of Mayfield, Gammon and Dalebout in Provo, and later for the Provo High Seminary. In the late 1970s, she and Bob started B&C Custodial, a business they built together, serving offices, restaurants, church buildings, and theaters throughout Utah and Arizona.
Our mother served faithfully in countless church callings throughout her life. After the passing of our beloved father, Bob, in 2007, she chose not to sit in sorrow, but to serve. She was called on a mission to Anaheim, California, where she joyfully served the Lord and grew to love the missionaries. Her faith in Jesus Christ and her devotion to the Gospel were the foundation of her life. She passed that faith on to her children and grandchildren.
Her greatest gift was her love. If she knew you, she loved you. And every single one of her grandchildren knew-without question-that they were "her favorite".
Colleen lived in her Orem home for 65 years. In her later years, though she became legally blind and relied on a cane, she fiercely valued her independence and her ability to remain in the home she loved. She was joyful, grateful, and never complained. She thanked everyone for everything. She was truly an extraordinary woman, and she was deeply loved.
She is survived by her children: Larry (Terry), Chris Moravec, Byron (Shauna), Suann (Kerry) Durfey, Dan (Shelly), John (Sylvia), Jim (Lisa), and Janice (Barry) Goff. Also by 41 adoring grandchildren, 120 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bob, her son Craig, and members of the Hutchings and Edwards families whom she has now joyfully reunited with.
A viewing will be held Thursday evening from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home at 646 East 800 North. A second viewing will be at the LDS chapel on 641 South 400 East, Orem, Friday morning from 9:30–10:30 a.m., followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. at the same location.
Interment will follow at Orem Cemetery, 1520 N. 800 E.,
Orem, Utah.
