Mary Evelyn Johnston Hedrick, aged 85, formerly of Statesville NC passed peacefully on October 28, 2025, in Nebo, NC. Born on September 21, 1940, in Iredell County, NC, she lived a life devoted to her family and community.
Mary was the cherished daughter of the late Charles McDuffy Johnston and Ollie Estelle Anderson Johnston. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, JW Hedrick; daughters Joyce Pestlin and Lori Stewart; son-in-law Ray Stewart; and siblings James Johnston, Russell Johnston, Marie, Minnie, Mildred, Cordie, and Alice.
A dedicated homemaker, Mary found great joy in nurturing her family and home. Her passions included yard work and gardening, sewing, reading, and exploring her family's genealogy. For many years, she attended Eufola Baptist Church, where she found spiritual nourishment and community.
Mary is survived by her loving daughter Cynthia Sigmon, her devoted son Lee Hedrick and his wife Stacie, and her son-in-law James Pestlin. She was a proud grandmother to eight grandchildren, who along with numerous nieces and nephews, will carry forward her legacy.
A funeral service will be held at 1 PM on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends in the parlor at Nicholson Funeral Home from 12-1 PM prior to the service. Interment will follow at Iredell Memorial Park.
