Mary Lee (Sampson) Heide, 93, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 27, 2023, at the Wellmore Nursing Facility in Tega Cay, SC.
Mary was born in St. Joseph, MO on August 31, 1930, and was the daughter of Chester and Edith Sampson. She grew up in Independence, MO. where she attended William Chrisman High school and Central Missouri College in Warrensburg, MO.
Mary married Gregg Heide on September 26, 1952, in Sacramento, CA, where he was serving in the Air Force. They subsequently lived in Waco, TX, Linn, KS, and Pueblo, CO, before moving to Pittsburg, KS in 1961.
Mary taught at Westside School in Pittsburg and then spent many years in the Baxter Springs school system as a librarian. She was an active Girl Scout leader, which she enjoyed very much, and a member of the First Christian Church in Pittsburg, KS.
Mary was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, and friend to all who knew her, and will be missed dearly.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, along with her parents, her daughter Kathy Foard and brothers James and Laurence Sampson.
Mary is survived by her daughter Gail and husband Mark Boyer of Belmont, NC, and her son Scott and wife Pam Heide of Medfield, MA. Nine grandchildren - Christin York, Keith Bradley, Gregg Boyer, Anna Boyer Failes, Ryan Heide, Shawn Heide, Taylor Heide Ludwig, Kacie Foard, and Parker Foard and five great-grandchildren, Josiah and Ian York, Millie and Bodhi Bradley, and Jackson Failes.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday November 11, 2023, at the First Christian Church in Pittsburg. The family will receive friends from 10:00am-10:30 with the service immediately following. Mary will be laid to rest in the Highland Park Cemetery in Pittsburg, KS. Arrangements are under the direction of the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS.
