A funeral mass to celebrate the life of Mary Ann (McConnell) Hill, 92, of Hokes Bluff, will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church. Father Jose B. Chacko will be officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the mass. Mrs. Hill will be laid to rest immediately following the service in Young's Chapel Cemetery.
Mrs. Hill passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2024.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. Hill.
Left to cherish the memory of Mrs. Hill include her children, Jerry Hill and Joyce Totherow (Steve); her grandchildren, Steffany, Ginger, and Chase (Sarah); her great-grandchildren, Lillian, Wyatt, Alden, Elzie, and Vera; her brother, Jerry McConnell (Nellie); two nieces, Barbara and Rachel; and five nephews, Joe, John, Danny, Jerry, and Lee.
Pallbearers will be Chase Totherow, Steve Totherow, Joe Rodriguez, Jack Totherow, Billy Totherow, and Wyatt Schweiger.
Mrs. Hill was born on April 17, 1932, in Bel Air, Maryland. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Gadsden and volunteered at the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) of Etowah County. Mrs. Hill earned her BS degree from Jacksonville State University and worked as a civil service employee with the Department of the Army at Fort McClellan for 33 years. In her spare time, Mrs. Hill was very active in swimming, walking, and water aerobics, and also loved to read and knit. She was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mrs. Hill's memory to the Center of Concern, 612 Chestnut Street, Gadsden, AL 35901.

Please accept my deepest condolences- Ed and Mary Ann were such a special couple and great friends to my family. We have such great memories of the many Sunday breakfasts after mass, and my children still remember those times fondly. We pray that you will be sustained by your faith and many loving memories.
