Mary Phyllis Hillyer (nee Anderson) of Chicago, age 84, passed peacefully Friday morning, June 6, 2025. She was born May 28, 1941, in Cook County, a daughter of the late Edwin Anderson and Della Gneuwich (nee Maggi).
Mary is survived by her son Edward (Nicole) Hillyer, daughter Brenda Crutchfield, daughter Heidi (Greg) Cheeks, daughter Robin Alexander, and son Michael (Belinda) Hillyer. She also leaves behind her many loving grandchildren, siblings, nieces and nephews. Mary is preceded in death by her two daughters, Debra and Sherry Hillyer.
Mary was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was deeply committed to her family and friends, consistently showing genuine concern for their well-being. May she rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love and light she brought into our world.
A memorial service will be led by Mary’s daughter, Pastor Heidi Cheeks at 12:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be made to St. Jude’s's Children's Research Hospital.
