Mary Louise Howdyshell

Mary Louise (Helmick) Howdyshell, 72, of Hinton, passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2026 at Augusta Nursing and Rehab in Fishersville.
Mrs. Howdyshell was born on May 30, 1953 in Rockingham County and was a daughter of the late James Cread and Georgia Ellen (Hawkins) Helmick. Mary worked in health care administration for her entire career. She worked in Scheduling and Posting for Rockingham Memorial Hospital and its Operating Room. She later worked for Harrisonburg Medical Associates. Mrs. Howdyshell enjoyed camping, traveling, reading and baking, especially wedding cakes. Mary was active in Mt. Olive Presbyterian Church. Her greatest enjoyment came from spending time with her family.
On December 21, 1974 she married Gary Edwin Howdyshell, who survives.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Howdyshell is survived by her son, Adam Howdyshell and significant other, Kimberly Turner of Hinton; brothers, John Helmick and wife Teresa, Mike Helmick; and a grandson, Chandler Turner.
She was also preceded in death by her sisters Sharon Elizabeth Helmick, Ruth Helmick Orndorff; and a brother, James David Helmick.
Friends may view the body and sign the register book from noon until 5 p.m. on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2026 at 2 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg with Pastor Stephanie Harris and Gerald Harper officiating.
Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests all memorial contributions be made to Mt. Olive Presbyterian Church, 9148 Rawley Pike, Hinton, VA 22831.
