It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, Mary Elizabeth Huggins, who left us on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at the age of 90, in Weirton, West Virginia.
Mary was born on September 8, 1935, in Weirton, West Virginia, to Antonio and Rosa Palumbo, and was the cherished mother of two daughters. She grew up in Weirton and after graduating from Weir High School in 1953, she worked as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone Company.
Mary will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and her wonderful smile. She loved to bake and sew, and she loved music. She left a lasting mark on the hearts of those who knew her.
Mary lost her husband and the love of her life, James W. Huggins, on December 21, 1967, after a lengthy illness. Her daughters fondly and proudly remember her unwavering love, strength, and devotion in caring for their father and raising them single-handedly after his death.
In addition to her husband, Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Antonio and Rosa Palumbo; her loving sisters and best friends, Madeline (Patsy) DiLullo; Minnie (Lawrence) Wheatley; Antoinette "Dee" Palumbo; and a brother, Patsy (Virginia) Palumbo.
Mary is survived by and will be sadly missed by her two daughters, Cynthia Huggins of Weirton, WV, and Karen (Kenneth) Ralich, of Oakdale, PA; her grandchildren, Rebecca (Katlin) Ralich and Christopher Ralich; and several nieces and nephews.
Mary's love, strength, and spirit will live on in all of us. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those whose lives she touched. Private services will be held for immediate family only through Steel & Wolfe Funeral Home & Cremation Services, at the family's request. Interment will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, reuniting Mary with her beloved James after 57 years.
