Mary Lou Hulsebus went home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 19, 2025 at the age of 81. Mary Lou was born Mary Lou Blind in Ft. Madison, IA., on January 31, 1944, to Frank and Teresa Blind.
Mary Lou was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grand mother. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Stuart, daughter Lou Ann (Scott) Chapuis of Mt. Juliet, TN, son Dan (Tina) Hulsebus of Fordland, MO, son Lee (Julie) Hulsebus of Nixa, MO, granddaughters Beth Chapuis, Rachel (Ben) Blagg, Carmen Hulsebus, Lauren Hulsebus, grandsons Josh (Nadine) Chapuis, Cameron Hulsebus, Kyle Hulsebus, and four great-grandchildren, Colton, McKenzie and Callie Blagg and Ellianna Chapuis. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents and siblings.
Mary Lou grew up in West Point, Iowa, and graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1962. She and Stuart were married on June 16, 1962. Stuart was Mary Lou's high school sweetheart. Known to all as Stu and Lou, she worked alongside Stuart during his career in AAA and in many ministries like Sports World Ministries and Campers on Mission. They also went on several mission's trip abroad.
Mary Lou loved to host in their home, and every season had its own décor. She loved having friends over and playing cards or pretty much any game you might know. Mary Lou was also well known for sending birthday cards which were sure to have you laughing or crying.
Spunky and adventurous, she had a tender side when it came to her family. Mary Lou loved her children and grandchildren, but she especially loved Stuart. They could be seen together almost non-stop. Stu and Lou were very service oriented and were willing to do anything – as long as they could be together.A dear friend to many, Mary Lou demonstrated how to lead through serving, and how to have a vital relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She and Stuart never shied away from hard work and always jumped in when help was needed, whether at church, in the community or for friends and family.
Mary Lou's deep faith carried her through all of life's struggles and hardships. She often asked, "How do people handle life's struggles when they don't know the Lord personally?"Mostly, what Mary Lou would want everyone to know today is that a personal faith in Jesus and His finished work on the cross is the thing that matters most in life – and in death.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 28, 10 a.m. at Greenlawn North, 3506 North National Avenue, Springfield. Visitation is from 3-5 pm on Thursday, February 27.
