Mary Christine "Chris" Joye, 72, of Owings, passed away on July 11, 2024 at Calvert Health Medical Center. Born on December 8, 1951, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of Mary "Agnes" (Vaughan) and Frederick William Heine, III. Chris grew up in Silver Spring and spent her summers at the family cottage in Randle Cliff, Chesapeake Beach. She participated in competitive speed skating, through which she met the boy who would become her husband, Carl Joye, Jr., when she was twelve years old. She went on to become a consummate professional working as a mortgage lender, and by the conclusion of her career she had become Vice President of Mortgage Lending for Bank of America. Chris loved spending time with her family and was "literally obsessed" with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Chris is survived by her daughters, Jennifer Joye soon to be returning to the DC area, and Jessica Hammonds (Marlon) of Woodbridge, VA; grandchildren Aaron (Keely Barco), Olivia, and Amaya (Jay Tyler) Joye, and Muffin Sugawara; two great-grandchildren, Paxton Joye, Jaxon Tyler, and a third great-grandchild, Kaiya Christine Joye, soon to be born with her namesake. Chris is also survived by her siblings, Fred Heine, IV (Mary), Celie Cochrell (Kerry), and Betsy Heine; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Agnes and Frederick William Heine, III., her sister Bernadette Williamson, and her former husband and special friend Carl Watson Joye, Jr.
