Mary Ann Kazimer (nee Wargo), 89 of Avon, OH and formerly of Webster, N.Y., peacefully passed away surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, October 9, 2025. She was born on November 10, 1935, to parents Joseph and Anna (nee Jacobs) Wargo in Clairton, PA.
Mary Ann had a very happy childhood in Clairton, PA, (Go Steelers!) where she enjoyed the support of her wonderful parents, and her special status as the only daughter in a family of 4 brothers, whom she dearly loved. "Mer," as she was affectionately known, always maintained close relationships with her many cousins and extended family for the whole of her life. She became one of the fortunate survivors of the tuberculosis epidemic of the 1950s, having spent 19 months in a TB sanatorium in Loretto, Pennsylvania. This life-altering experience at the age of 19 strengthened Mary Ann's resilience and perseverance through any adversities life presented. Her devotion to, and love for, the Catholic faith sustained her during this period and throughout her entire life.
Shortly thereafter, she became reacquainted with a high school sweetheart, Bill Kazimer, and they married in 1958. She was a dedicated wife for nearly 60 years and a wonderful caretaker to her husband, prior to his passing in 2018.
In her mid-40's, Mary Ann discovered a passion for golf, and in a relatively short time, became an accomplished golfer. People frequently commented on her smooth swing and incredible accuracy. She was so proud of the Hole in One she achieved in the company of her closest friends. Mary Ann enjoyed many happy years of friendship and fellowship with her golf and Garden Club ladies.
Mary Ann's legacy is her dedication to her family both near and far. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She was the ultimate caregiver to her husband and extended family. At a moment's notice, Mary Ann would drop whatever she was doing and come to help, sometimes for extended periods of time away from her home. Beyond being a dedicated caregiver, Mary Ann gave generously of her time to a variety of community services. It brought her immense joy to volunteer at her grandchildren's school, St. Rita's, in Webster, New York. For many years, her infectious and joyful personality was felt by students and staff alike.
Mary Ann's positive attitude towards life and her unconditional support and love to all she came in contact with will be deeply missed by her family. Her brilliant smile, even in the later stages of Alzheimer's Disease, will be forever cherished.
She is survived by her loving children Renee Matgouranis (Peter) of Avon Lake, Gregory Kazimer (Debra) of Webster, NY and Teresa Lynn Clapp (Jose Vargas) of Avon Lake; cherished grandchildren Nicole (Cody) Dalton, Christopher (Sandi) Matgouranis, Alexander (Christy) Clapp, Rachel Matgouranis, Nathaniel (Mariah) Clapp, Hannah (Logan) Ernst, Cameron (Caitlyn) Clapp, Samantha Kazimer, Isabelle Clapp (dec.), and Benjamin Kazimer; great-grandchildren Natalie, Oliver, Samuel, Penelope, Hadley, Kinsley, Braxton, Crew, Cooper, Nora, Brennan, Cecilia and Romee; dear siblings John (Jackie) Wargo of Ocala, FL, Paul (Barbara) Wargo of Dillsburg, PA, Lois Anne Wargo of Pleasant Hills, PA, Dee Wargo of Cherry Hill, NJ and Joanne (Stan) Kashuba of Tionesta, PA.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of nearly 60 years, William Kazimer (2018); parents, Joseph (1979) and Anna (2005) Wargo; brothers Joseph Wargo (1997) and James Wargo (2015), and granddaughter Isabelle Clapp (2012).
The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the loving care provided to her by the staff of The Ganzhorn Suites of Avon and Cypress Hospice. We are forever grateful. Donations to Cypress Hospice (cypresshospice.com) and/or The
Alzheimer's Association (alz.org) in Mary Ann's name are much appreciated.
