Mary Kay Klabo, 69, of Sharon, North Dakota, passed away on June 6th, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones.

Mary Kay was born on June 19th, 1954, to June and Richard (Dick) Helenske of Bismarck, North Dakota. After graduating from high school, she began her studies at the University of Mary and then transferred to complete her degree in Elementary Education at the University of North Dakota, where she formed many lifelong friendships.

Mary Kay met her husband, Thomas (Tom) Klabo, through mutual friends, and they were married on July 10th, 1981. Together, they had two children, Justin and Krista.

Mary Kay was an incredible teacher who touched countless lives with her kindness, wisdom, and strength. She shared her passion for learning with thousands of children over the years at Griggs County Central, taking great pride in helping them grow, especially teaching them to read. Her dedication extended beyond the classroom as she taught Sunday School for many years at Trinity Lutheran Church and actively volunteered with the church to serve others. When she wasn't in the classroom or volunteering, Mary Kay contributed significantly to the family farm, whether it was driving the grain cart, preparing meals, mowing the lawn, or managing various tasks.

After retiring from teaching in 2013, Mary Kay spent her time reading, quilting, baking, and spoiling her grandchildren. She and Tom enjoyed their retirement years traveling, wintering in Arizona, and cheering on their grandkids at sporting events.

Mary Kay was a loving mother and wonderful grandmother, embodying the best qualities: unconditional love, strength of spirit, and unending generosity. She was known for her delicious meals, cookies, and Special K bars.   She also enjoyed playing cards and games and had a particular fondness for Cheez-Its and Diet Coke.

Mary Kay was predeceased by her parents, Richard (Dick) and June Helenske. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Klabo; children, Justin (Kristin) and Krista; grandsons, Blake and Kohen; brothers, Craig (Llonna) and Steve Helenske; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Her presence will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
