Mary Gay Cobb (75) "Gay" of Haymarket, Virginia passed peacefully at home on Tuesday, October 7, 2025. She was preceded in death by her brother Thomas J. Cobb and is survived by her son, Chuck; daughter-in-law, Kim; grandchildren, Ella and Collin; and many loving friends.

Born in 1950 in Washington, D.C., Gay was the beloved daughter of Thomas L. Cobb and Mary Gay Cobb. She was a graduate of West Springfield High School and went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Psychology in 1972, followed by a Master's degree in 1974 from George Mason University.

Throughout her life, Gay was devoted to serving the needs of homeless veterans and enjoyed a decades-long career with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Her compassion and generosity profoundly impacted countless individuals, and she will be remembered for her loving spirit and unwavering commitment to helping others.

Friends may call on Monday, October 20, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home, 9902 Braddock Rd., Fairfax, VA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 7600 Old Keene Mill Road, Springfield, Virginia, on Tuesday, October 21, at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at Fairfax Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans, nchv.org or the Wounded Warrior Project, woundedwarriorproject.org.
