Mary Lucile Reid, age 99, of Gladwin, passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2025. She was born on May 18, 1926, the daughter of Francis LeRoy and Goldie Mearel (Fetterolf) Ballard in Gladwin County. Lucile worked during high school at Schwager’s Department Store. After graduating from Beaverton High School, she worked at Dow Chemical for three years in the invoice department, teletyping and payroll. She met the man of her dreams, Berman Alan Reid, through his sister and they shared 55 years together on their farm until he preceded her in death in 2001.
Mom lived her life as a farmer’s wife. She was up before seven and her work wasn’t done until after eleven! She would spend her days helping Dad in the fields, doing barn chores, and canning and freezing produce from the large vegetable garden, while also raising a family on the farm. Mom enjoyed flower gardening and always had beautiful gladioluses that filled the altar vases at the West Grout Methodist Church. She had a kind heart, soft voice, and gentle spirit.
Mom enjoyed sewing and was a Grout 4-H Rangers Club Leader. She worked at the Sears Catalog Store in Gladwin and was a member of the First United Methodist Church which is now New Beginnings Methodist Church.
She is survived by her children: Linda (Dave) Crawford, Alan (Gayle) Reid, and Rodney (Linda) Reid; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband: Berman; parents: Francis and Goldie; and siblings: Twyla Card, Frederick Wayne Ballard, Clarence Ballard, and Virgilene Tolly.
Mom, you will be spending Christmas with Dad and Jesus this year.
We love and miss you,
Lin, Al, and Rod.
