Mary Frances Mason, age 73, of Pocahontas, passed away on Monday, July 1, 2024, at the MorningStar Assisted Living Center in West Des Moines, Iowa.
Mary Frances Lauritsen was born September 17, 1950, in Onawa, Iowa. She was the daughter of Roy and Marie (Gleason) Lauritsen. Mary graduated from East Monona High School in 1968. On January 25, 1969, Mary was united in marriage to Bill Mason at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Moorhead, Iowa. The couple settled in Pocahontas where Mary worked at the Pocahontas State Bank as a Teller and the Citizens State Bank as a Personal Banker. She retired in 2014. Bill passed away in 2014 and Mary continued to make her home in Pocahontas.
Mary was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, the Ladies Circle, and the Pocahontas Garden Club. She enjoyed working with flowers and candles for many years.
Survivors include her daughters, Michele (Melissa) Mason of West Des Moines and Melanie (Kim) Mason of Waukee; sisters, Carolyn (Jim) Sward of Gailsburg and Peggy Swenson of Ankeny; brothers, Dennis (Jane) Lauritsen of Chicago, IL and Daryle (Deb) Lauritsen of Onawa, and partner, Lenus Schramm of Pocahontas.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; parents, Roy and Marie Lauritsen, and brother-in-law, Harvey Swenson.
The family requests that memorials be made in Mary's name to the Bethesda Lutheran Church in Moorhead, St. Peter Lutheran Church in Pocahontas, St. Peter and Paul Lutheran Church in Riverside, IL and Ingemann Lutheran Cemetery near Moorhead.
