Mary McClellan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors - Lapeer on Dec. 22, 2025.
Mary Rebecca McClellan (Franklin), age 82, of Lapeer, Michigan, passed away on December 21, 2025. Mary was born on September 29, 1943, and was raised in Virginia. In 1966, she moved to Michigan with her husband, James "Jim" McClellan, where they built a life together and raised their family. Mary and Jim spent many years wintering together in Mission, Texas, a time they both looked forward to. Jim preceded her in death in 2012.
Mary was the quiet center of a loud, honest family; always keeping the peace with calm patience and a sharp, understated wit. Though soft-spoken, she was low-key the funniest person in the room when she was around "her people," delivering humor effortlessly and at just the right moment. She was also known for her great cooking and her constant encouragement to eat - whether it was suggesting a snack, offering "a sammich," or reminding you to grab a cookie from the jar.
Mary loved traveling with Jim, especially camping trips, which were among her favorite memories. She also enjoyed board games, puzzles, and sewing or knitting, always keeping her hands busy and her home welcoming.
She is survived by her three children, listed from oldest to youngest: James "Wally" McClellan, Robert "Bob" McClellan, and Rebecca McClellan and her husband, Jeffrey Colson; eight grandchildren and their spouses; and nine great-grandchildren.
Mary will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for her gentle presence, quick humor, and the way she made everyone feel cared for often times with food.
Friends may visit on Tuesday, December 30th, from 11-1 p.m. at Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors - Capstick Chapel in Lapeer. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m. Chaplain Rodney Sanderson-Smith will officiate. Mary will be laid to rest at Oregon Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages people to show kindness, help someone in need, or do something thoughtful in their own way.
