Mary Elizabeth Mecklenborg (nee Kammer) passed away June 20 in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was 92. Born in Cincinnati, Mrs. Mecklenborg graduated from Mother of Mercy High School and worked for several years as a Buyer for Shillito's Department Store. She married Paul Clarence Mecklenborg in 1953 and was a loving mother to six children. They had been married for 47 years when Paul passed away in 2001. In the 90s she opened an antique shop called "Special Things" in White Oak. She also helped lead the White Oak Beautification Project with other civic-minded residents. Mary loved life and was an avid traveler. She and her husband, and their friends, traveled extensively to Africa, Asia, Europe, Central America, and throughout the United States. Faith was very important. She was a dedicated Catholic. Devoted mother of Daniel P. (Mary T.) Mecklenborg, Mark J. (Ann Marie) Mecklenborg, Amy M. (Dean) Backscheider, Neal R. (Kathy) Mecklenborg, Paul W. Mecklenborg and Julie A. (Joe) Klosterman. Loving grandmother of Jake, John, Karl, Ben, Maggie, Rachel, Helene, Andrea, Lydia, Shelby, Drew, Leah, Jack and Sam. Great grandmother of 9. Visitation at Frederick Funeral Home, 2553 Banning Road on Monday (June 27) from 8:30am-9:30am, followed by Mass of Christian burial at St. James the Greater Catholic Church (White Oak) at 10:00 a.m., with burial to follow at the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Rockside Square II, 6133 Rockside Road, Suite 208, Independence, OH 44131 (or online at nationalmssociety.org); or to Franciscans of St. John the Baptist Province, Inc. (St. Anthony Shrine), 5000 Colerain Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45223 (or online at stanthony.org). Special condolences may be expressed at frederickfh.com
