Mary Metzger Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Legacy Options Funeral and Cremation Services, LLC - Naples on Dec. 19, 2025.
Mary Elizabeth (McCampbell) Metzger, age 69, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, in Naples, Florida.

Mary was born on February 11, 1956, in Battle Creek, Michigan to William and Jane (Durrstein) McCampbell. She graduated from Lake Forest High School, Lake Forest, Illinois, in 1974. She went on to earn an undergraduate degree from Indiana University and a master's degree from Ball State University in Speech Pathology. While attending Indiana University, Mary met the love of her life, Blaine Metzger, whom she married on November 24, 1979, in Claypool, Indiana. She went on to become a speech therapist, teaching in a school district in the northwestern Chicago suburbs before moving with her family to Racine, Wisconsin in 1990.

Mary and Blaine's union created two children, Jeff (Randi Muniz) Metzger of Denver, Colorado and Kara (Mike) Ohmstead of Kenosha, Wisconsin, parents of grandchildren Charlotte and Jack Ohmstead.

Mary was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her life revolved around her family and friends. She was an avid tennis player and later in life enjoyed golf and socializing with the many friends she met along the way. A big love of Mary's included following her favorite sports teams including the Detroit Red Wings, Green Bay Packers, and Indiana Hoosiers, among others. Mary spent many hours volunteering for numerous organizations including The Prairie School, where her children attended and grandchildren now attend, PEO, and church. After retirement, she loved the warm weather of Naples and returning in the summers to Racine to spend time with her grandchildren, as well as travelling the world with Blaine and many of their close friends.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents William and Jane McCampbell, her brother David McCampbell, and her niece Ashlea McCampbell. She is survived by Robert (Jill) McCampbell, Karrie McCambell, Rod (Ann) Metzger as well as many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Mary's life will occur on Saturday, January 17th from noon to 2:00 pm at the Vineyards Country Club in Naples, Florida.

A gathering in Racine, Wisconsin will take place on Saturday, February 7th from noon to 2:00 p.m. at Sebastian's, 6025 Douglas Avenue, Caledonia, WI 53402.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Prairie School in Racine Wisconsin, or the American Heart Association.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to their family and friends for the overwhelming outpouring of love and support.

Blaine, Jeff, and Kara,
Our hearts ache for you. Mary was a remarkable person---a warm, bright light whose generosity with time and talent made her a model of devotion to the people, places, and causes she loved, not least of which were The Prairie School and Covenant Presbyterian Church in Racine. We mourn her loss and hold you in our thoughts and prayers.

Our deepest sympathies to Blaine and the children, especially little Charlotte and Jack. They loved their grandma and the time they spent with her.
We will always remember Mary as a wonderful neighbor, always smiling and joining us in "the park" for laughs and a glass of wine. She has left a void in our daily lives.
God bless her.
