Mary Catherine Fortner Moore, affectionately known as "Mama Cathy," entered her eternal rest with the Lord on Monday, December 8, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on June 11, 1950, in Iredell County, NC, she was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.
Mama Cathy was a graduate of Stony Point High School and dedicated many years of service as a purchasing coordinator at Elmer's Products, from which she retired. Her work and life were characterized by dedication and diligence, qualities that were evident in all her endeavors.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Martha Anne Gillis and Harry Eugene Fortner, as well as her cherished son, Jerry Lee Moore, Jr., who passed away in 2012 and her sister Debbie Fortner Bumgarner. Despite these profound losses, Mama Cathy remained the steadfast heart of her family.
Surviving her are her devoted daughter, Donna Moore Rankins, and son-in-law, Rhyne. She was a proud grandmother to Austin Moore, Elizabeth Moore (Traquon Jefferson), and Tiffany Moore, all of whom she lovingly raised from an early age. Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren: Mason Moore, Kyro Jefferson, and Leilani Jefferson. Mama Cathy is also survived by her dear sister, Patricia Fortner Fraizer(Chuck), who shared in her life's journey and brothers Charlie Duncan(Angie) & David Duncan(Angie).
Family was everything to Mama Cathy. She was the heart and light of her family, a source of unconditional love, selfless sacrifice, and endless support. Her sweet and humble spirit shaped the lives of those around her with wisdom, strength, and unwavering belief. She created a safe haven where family always came first, even before herself. Her legacy will live on in every cherished memory and lesson taught, making everyone feel special.
A memorial service to honor Mama Cathy's life will be held on Tuesday, December 16, at 2 PM in the Chapel of Nicholson Funeral Home. The family invites those who knew and loved her to join them in celebrating her life and the indelible mark she left on all who knew her.
Though she will be deeply missed, Mama Cathy's spirit will continue to guide and inspire her family, living on in their hearts forever.
