Mary Moritz Obituary

Published by Legacy on Nov. 5, 2024.
MORITZ, MARY ANN, 1949 - 2024, Master Educator, died on October 31 after a long illness.
Born in Portland, Maine, she was the daughter of the late Charles E. Moritz and the late Mary "Mae"
(Davis) Moritz, both of Boston, Massachusetts. She was a graduate of East Granby High School and
Southern Connecticut State College, where she also achieved a Masters Degree in Education. Ms. Moritz
was a resident of East Granby, Connecticut for many years, where she was a devoted and accomplished
teacher for more than forty years. She passed on her knowledge and love of children's literature, at both
the elementary and middle school levels, to generations of students and their families.
Ms. Moritz enjoyed the crafts of sewing, quilting, knitting, and crocheting. She loved traveling with
friends and family. Her trips included Alaska, France, Switzerland, and Ireland. She was a theater
enthusiast, especially of Broadway shows in New York City. She swam, snow skied, and water skied and
spent many happy summer and winter vacations with family and friends at Lake Winnipesaukee, New
Hampshire, and the mountains of New Hampshire and Vermont. She was an animal lover, with many pet
dogs and cats throughout her life. She was an avid lifetime Boston Red Sox fan as well as a New England
Patriots fan, pastimes which afforded her much pleasure, especially in her later years.
Ms. Moritz was a loving and generous godmother and friend to many children throughout her life,
remembering special occasions with books autographed by her favorite authors. She also found joy in
selecting and giving gifts of photography books and artwork. She faithfully supported many charitable
causes.
Funeral arrangements are private through Tucker-Quinn Funeral Chapel.
Ms. Moritz will be buried with her parents at Saint Bernard Church Cemetery, Tariffville, CT.
Memorial donations may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Mary Ann was a one of the first people to offer friendship when I joined the elementary faculty as the Library Media Specialist in East Granby in 1987. She was a 4th grade teacher who was very active in school activities. She shared her love of reading with her students. She chaperoned the after-school skiing club at Ski Sundown for many years. I have many happy memories of time spent with Mary Ann.

I first met Mary Ann in the fall of 1985 as I began my new job in East Granby as a 5th grade teacher. Mary Ann was a 4th grade teacher at that time. We taught in an open space environment (no walls) so we "saw" each other all day. I have many memories of Mary Ann as a co-worker. Sherry Goodwin
