Mary Margaret Bowles Myers, 60, Shelbyville, died Thursday, January 16, 2025 at her home following a prolonged illness. A native of Palos Heights, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late Margaret "Peggy" Decocq Bowles and William Bowles.
Mary graduated from Nazareth College with a bachelor's degree. She worked at Associates in Physical Therapy and alongside her husband at Bluegrass Spine Care for thirty years as a medical assistant.
Mary often said that her family gave her life. She was a loving wife and a devoted mother who found pure joy in the moments she shared with loved ones in her home. For her, family was her passion - a fact that she made clear with the many long weekends spent at her children's wrestling tournaments or rowing races, cheering them on. She loved her children unconditionally and supported them unwaveringly. Mary filled her home with magic and countless memories. She loved Sunday dinners with her family, bringing everyone together to spend time with each other. Sharing her stories and recipes and, above all, spending time with family was the highlight of her weeks. Mary was family not only to those biologically connected to her, but to the countless friends that she encountered over her lifetime. Mary's deeply compassionate heart and jubilant spirit drew people to her. She had a unique ability to make anyone she met feel heard, safe, and loved. She wanted nothing more than to use that gift to bring people to Jesus, with her faith being the cornerstone of who she was and how she lived. She was a member of Shelby Christian Church.
In addition to her parents, one sister, Maureen Bowles, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her loving husband of 33 years, Dr. Mark Myers of Shelbyville; four children, Jesse Myers (Cicely) of Sellersburg, IN, Andria Savill (Ben) of Colorado Springs, CO, Maggie Dube (Ryan) of Macon, GA and Mercy Kavaya of VA; her grandson, John Colter Dube of Macon, GA; her sister, Kathy Thompson of Rochester, NY; her father-in-law, Robert Myers of Shelbyville and a host of other relatives and friends.
Cremation has been selected in accordance with her wishes. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at Shelby Christian Church with visitation after 11 a.m. Rev. Dave Hamlin will officiate. The cremated remains will be privately interred later.
