Mary Negrete (88) peacefully passed away on June 3, 2025 surrounded by her family. Mary was born June 17, 1936, to Ysidro and Antonia Murillo and was raised in Valley Junction (West Des Moines, IA).
She graduated from Valley High School in 1955. After graduating, she worked for LOOK magazine until she married the love of her life, Albert, in 1957 at Sacred Heart Church in West Des Moines where they raised their family.
In 1959 they welcomed their first son Timothy, followed by their second son Andrew in 1965.
Mary was a full-time mom and homemaker before returning back to work at IMT Insurance where she retired in 1995. Mary and Albert had a strong belief in their Catholic faith and were involved with many faith activities in both the church and their son’s schools.
Mary enjoyed many hobbies from crafting and shopping with her sister Jane, to her family activities and most enjoyable her knack for cooking and baking, not only for her family but friends as well. Mary always enjoyed entertaining guests at their home. Later in life, Mary was very proud of her 5 grandchildren and her 6 great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons Tim (Pam) and Andy (Lisa), grandchildren, Natasha (Jason) Bovee, Eddie (Brenda) Bleimehl, Timmy (Joe) Negrete, Nick (Claire) Negrete and Emma Negrete. Great grandchildren, Lailie, Fiona, Charlie, Tristan, Aurora and Miles and brother Mike (Mary) Murillo.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Albert, her siblings, Jesse, Tito, Manual, and Abel Murillo, Abby Chia and Jane Bejarno.

A visitation will be held on Monday, June 9, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church (2926 Beaver Ave, Des Moines, IA 50310). A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Glendale Cemetery (4909 University Ave, Des Moines, IA 50311) Memorial contributions can be made to Holy Trinity Catholic Church in memory of Mary Negrete, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (Click To Make A Memorial Contribution) and the Iowa Homeless Youth Center (Click To Make A Memorial Contribution)
