Mary Nonemaker Obituary

NONEMAKER (Cooney), Mary "Beth"

Beth Nonemaker (Cooney) lived a life full of adventure, love and laughter. She passed away on February 15, 2025, surrounded by family, leaving behind a lifetime of wonderful memories and great stories.

Born in Detroit on February 17, 1954, Beth grew up in Royal Oak, MI with her five siblings- Cindy, Sally, Bobby, Pat and Meggie. They were raised in a big, loving Catholic family, attending The Shrine of the Little Flower Catholic Church.

She graduated from Central Michigan University (Go Fighting Chippewas!) and landed a job at Hudson's Department Store. Before settling in her career, she took one last summer trip to Martha's Vineyard. A chance opportunity to crew a boat to St. Croix turned into a four year adventure working at the Buccaneer Hotel.

In the early '80s, Beth moved to Tampa where she met Brian, the love of her life. They spent their time doing what Beth loved most- sailing in Thursday night yacht races off Davis Island, and after three years of dating, they tied the knot in New York City in 1986.

A year later, they moved to Atlanta and found their home in Virginia Highland, where they built an incredible life together. Their sons, Robert and Andrew were raised in the house on Bellevue Drive, attending the "big three" Morningside Elementary, Inman Middle and Grady High. Beth loved her neighborhood, her friends and the community she was a part of.

She was immensely proud to see her boys grow into the men she always knew they would be and they fulfilled all of her dreams. They found amazing partners in Kate and Marisa, and nothing made Beth happier than welcoming her three beautiful granddaughters into the world- Maeve, Dottie and Bea.

Beth always said she lived a charmed life and she meant it. She lived in one of the greatest neighborhoods, traveled the world, had incredible friends and built a family she adored. She will be deeply missed, but we take comfort in knowing she lived exactly the way she wanted- fully, joyfully and with no regrets.

A celebration of Beth's life will be held on March 21, 2025 at George's Restaurant, 1041 North Highland Avenue Northeast, Atlanta, GA 30306, from 1-5 PM. In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask that you make a donation to the Atlanta Humane Society in Beth's memory.

Beth was a friend of mine when I worked at Coca-Cola. For some reason, she came to my mind tonight. I was sad to see that she died a few months ago. We had some good lunch conversations and she always talked about her family.

Beth and I were a team in the Corporate Audit Department at The Coca-Cola Company in the late `90s. She was a pleasure to work with and made countless contributions to our business success. My sincere condolences to Beth´s family and friends. RIP Beth!
