Mary A. Pearn, 94, of Moosic, formerly of South Scranton, St. Petersburg, Fla., and Pearl River, N.Y., died Friday at Lehigh Valley Pocono Hospital. Her husband of 32 years, the late James F. Pearn of Brooklyn, N.Y., died in 1987.
Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Delmar and Josephine Refice Bucari, she was a graduate of Scranton Central High School and Marywood University. A member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish until its closing and later St. Paul of the Cross Parish, Mary was an active parishioner and member of the Altar and Rosary Society, and served as a deacon and Eucharistic minister. She was also a member of the After 50 and Young at Heart clubs. For many years, she worked as a registered dietician at Pascack Valley Hospital in New Jersey before returning to the Scranton area.
Mary's deepest love was her family. She was a devoted and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother whose adventurous spirit was and will continue to be an inspiration to us all for living life to the fullest and not letting anything get in her way. We are so grateful to have had her as such an incredible example of kindness, honesty and strength. Mary will be deeply missed, but fondly remembered, by all who knew her.
She is survived by three children, James F. Pearn Jr. (Elizabeth), Dayton, Ohio; Dr. Catherine Sweeney (Paul), East Stroudsburg; and Francis J. Pearn (Suzanne), Garden City, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Matthew, Stephen (Kaitlyn), Brian, Jordan, Caitlin (Joshua) and Emma; and three great-grandchildren, McKenna, Adelyn and DaKree.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Frank Bucari, in 2014.
The funeral will be Friday with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Paul of the Cross Parish at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church, 1217 Prospect Ave., Scranton, celebrated by Monsignor Joseph G. Quinn, pastor, followed by interment at Italian American Cemetery, Scranton.
Friends and family may call Thursday, 4 to 7 p.m., at the Neil W. Regan Funeral Home Inc., 1900 Pittston Ave., Scranton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, 145 Indian Wood Drive, Stroudsburg, PA 18360. To email condolences, please visit the funeral home website.
