Mary Pfrommer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Soller-Baker Funeral Homes, Inc. – Lafayette Chapel on Jul. 18, 2024.
Mary Ruth "Peach" (Bossung) Pfrommer, a longtime resident of Lafayette who moved to Texas in 2019, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2024 in her care facility. She was 97 years old.
Peach was born and raised in Lafayette with her twin brother Tom, sister Floss, and her parents Bob and Bertha Bossung. Both Peach and Tom were born prematurely and weighed 2.5 and
3.0 pounds at birth respectively. Being premature, she was covered in soft fine hair, which led her father to declare her to be "his little peach". The name stuck and stayed her entire life.
She graduated from Saint Francis High School and attended Purdue University for two years. While at Purdue, she met the love of her life, David Pfrommer. They were married in 1948 and raised five children.
Peach had an incredible work ethic and held a job or was a homemaker from high school until she retired at the age of 86. She worked at the Vaughn Monument Company, Cyr Plumbing, Arnett Clinic, West Lafayette Schools and the Lafayette Parks Department.
Peach was strong and active in her Catholic faith. She grew up in Saint Lawrence Parish and became a member of Saint Boniface Parish in 1954. She was a founding member of the Saint Boniface Widows Group. In addition, she was a Eucharistic Minister, an active member of the Ladies Society, American Legion Auxiliary, Saint Elizabeth Hospital Auxiliary, and visited parishioners as part of the Homebound Ministry.
Peach will always be remembered as a kind and loving person, who valued her faith and family above all. An avid cook and hostess, her pies and chicken and noodles were staples at family gatherings. Outgoing and friendly, Peach could strike up a conversation with anyone and everyone and find a meaningful connection with them. Always curious and loving, Peach kept an open mind and open heart for anyone she met.
Left to cherish her memories are her children David (Connie Naville), Dennis (Carol Norris), Norma Hemphill (Michael Hemphill), Martin, and Michael (Francesca Mulvihill), 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to the Columbian Park Zoo via the Lafayette Parks Foundation: General Donation | Lafayette Parks Foundation, Inc. (square.site)
Mass and Catholic burial will be held at Saint Boniface Catholic Church on August 10, 2024. The rosary will be said at 10:30 am. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am. Mass will be held at 12:00 noon followed by graveside services at Saint Boniface Cemetery.

Hi Pfrommer family. I received this reminder of the anniversary of Peachie's passing, and I'll take this opportunity to share again just what a beautiful woman and family friend your mama was.

Sharing a picture of Peachie and our mom, Jeannie, in their later years. They both remained so beautiful and joyful always. Your mom remained a special friend to our mom throughout her long life.

May you be blessed as you remember your mother on this day!

It was great to see you at the reunion recently, Marty :-) Would have enjoyed more time to visit, though the big crowd sharing stories and touching in was great! Blessings to you and yours until next we meet.

Denny and Carol: I am sorry for your loss. It seems like it wasn´t that long ago that I saw her at her birthday celebration at Jenks Rest. Lafayette just hasn´t been the same not running into Peach just about everywhere in town. She touched a lot of lives in so many positive ways.

Sending strong wishes for comfort, peace and lots of joyful memories to Peachie's family! We became extended family when Peachie's dad married our grandmother Peachie and our mother, Jeannie Wolford, had known one another since high school at least, and they shared many beautiful years together, each with their special brand of humor and love and service for others. Peachie was a delight, as always, and a special friend in our mother's final years. We are grateful to have known this beautiful woman. Again, many blessings to all of Peachie's family!!

Peach was indeed a beautiful person who radiated love from the inside out. I've known few who even came close to her. My sympathy to all her kids who I remember dearly. Many prayers and much love. Trish Logan aka Patty Dux.

I have some fond memories of Peach. My mother Helen was a good friend of hers and they were in Bridge club together. I remember playing with Mike on occasion too. Peach was such a sweet, loving, inviting and welcoming person. A true Gem!

I had the wonderful opportunity to work with Peach at Lafayette Parks and Recreation. She was a delight and always had a warm hug and bright smile for all of us! She was one of a kind and lived her life to the fullest. She will always be remembered as the "first ride down the slide" when Tropicanoe Cove opened! Love you Peachie, fly with the angels!

Peach greeted me into the West Lafayette School Corporation on the day I was hired. She explained the benefits to the first year rookie with patience. As years passed, I found out that her niece was the manager at the pool I worked at in Calumet City. I also went to water aerobics classes with her at the Cove and went down the slide with her. She always brought a smile to our faces. Love to the entire family. Xxxooo Sue Stan

Peaches was my neighbor for 10 years in Lafayette. She was always a ray of sunshine! She loved working in her yard even into her 90s. She was always a happy person and loved giving my father a hard time about being just a "kid" (she was a whole 2 years older than he was! Lol)
