Our beloved mother, Mary Louise Pickrell, born June 10, 1929, aged 93, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2023 at the Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville, GA.
She was born in Star City, AR to Thaddeaus Deweese and Mattie Faye Hobson Deweese Potter. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 63 years, William (Bill) Hamilton Pickrell, her sisters Ruth Merrell and Mildred Gellner, brothers Slim, J.B., Leon, and Virgil Deweese, and daughter Brenda Matherne. She is survived by her sisters Bonnie Ohmart and Annette Patton, her five children, Bill Pickrell, Margie Fowler (Ken), Karen Rechsteiner (Carl), Frank Pickrell (Cindy), and Sylvia Demetroulakos, 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren.
Our mother loved Jesus and her family. Her greatest joy was having her family near to her so she could love on them and especially feed them. No one ever left the dinner table hungry when she was cooking. But she also made sure that you were fed spiritually. She served the Lord with passion at Welcome All Baptist Church in Smyrna, GA, Zion Baptist Church in Suches, GA, and First Baptist Church in Blue Ridge, GA. She also loved volunteering. She worked tirelessly at several nursing homes in Marietta, GA, and upon moving to north Georgia, she volunteered as a pink lady at the Union County Nursing Home. Her greatest passions were her God, her family, and those who could not help themselves. All of us have been blessed by her life of love and faithfulness.
Her funeral service will be Saturday, March 25, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Henry-Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Rusty Thomas officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 noon to 1:45. You may send condolences to the family and sign the guest register at www.cochranfuneralhomes.com.
