Mary Rains Obituary
Mary Elizabeth Hart Rains passed peacefully onto her heavenly reward Saturday, December 2nd , 2023, surrounded by family and friends at her son’s house in Clear Spring, Maryland.
Mary Elizabeth Hart Rains grew up in rural area of Wayne County Kentucky, married John Will Rains on September 17th , 1954, and moved to Eubank Ky where they started their lives together. There, she raised four children while creating a successful tobacco and cattle farm. Mary took her nursing aid training and started working publicly in 1968 at the Kentucky State Hospital. After leaving the State Hospital, she spent 17 years working for the Mount Vernon hospital and then worked for many years as a home health-aid caring for the sick and infirm of her community. In addition to working as a nursing aid during the day, Mary would come home to take care of her children and worked many hours enabling the success of her family’s farm. Mary was always full of faith in Jesus and the eternal home he had gone to prepare. She spent many hours with her church family at Double Springs Baptist Church working to bring the Gospel to the community around her.
Mary Elizabeth Hart Rains is survived by four children: Kathy Sue Rains Lynch of
Hendersonville NC, Johnny Dean Rains of Eubank KY, Yolanda Sue Rains of Stanford KY, and Marion Joseph “Joe” Rains of Clear Spring MD. She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Mary Elizabeth Hart Rains, the daughter of the late Lena Velma Hurt Hart & Joseph Hoiedy Hart of Wayne County KY, was also preceded in death by her husband, John Will Rains of Eubank KY; two brothers, James Ellis Hart of Noblesville, IN and George Hoiedy Hart of Wayne County, KY; five sisters, Martha Hart Page of Chicago, Ill; Myrta Hart of Wayne County KY, Lora Jane Hart Miracle of Noblesville IN, Sarah Ann Hart Shelley of Muncie IN, Josie Velma Hart Hancock of Eubank KY; and one grandchild, Darlene Elizabeth Rains of Eubank KY.
A funeral service will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, December 16th, 2023, at the Double Springs Baptist Church.
Burial will be in Goochtown Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, December 15th, 2023, at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home and at 9:00 AM Saturday, December 16th, 2023 at the Double Springs Baptist Church.
