Mary Reichling Obituary

Published by Legacy on Aug. 6, 2025.
Mary Johanna "Jo" (Hasbrouck) Reichling, 96, of Eden Prairie, MN, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, died on July 30, 2025. She was born on November 9, 1928, to David Earl Hasbrouck and Laura Frances (Kennedy) Hasbrouck in Grundy Center, Iowa. She spent her early years in Alexandria, MN and Goldfield, Iowa and graduated from Goldfield High School. She was close to her family, especially her sisters, and played girls basketball in high school. Following high school, Jo moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa with her sister Earlene and worked at the phone company. There, she met and married John Vernon Reichling on June 9, 1951. Jo and John were married for 71 years before his death in 2022. They had two children, Jackie and John. They moved to Mount Vernon, Illinois, where John was a teacher and then to Woodstock, Illinois, where John also taught and they raised their family. While there, Jo earned a bachelor's degree in education from Northern Illinois University. Jo began teaching at Richmond (IL) Elementary School where she taught kindergarten and early education for over 20 years, had great impact and made many friends. She also enjoyed supporting her children and traveling with the family on trips across North America, visiting most US states and Canadian provinces. Jo retired from Richmond (IL) Elementary School in 1985. Upon retirement, Jo and John relocated to Winchester, WI on South Turtle Lake where they lived for nearly 40 years and enjoyed the Wisconsin Northwoods. Jo was active in her community. They stayed busy helping others and traveling the world with friends. Jo was a long-time member of the Northwoods Ski Touring Association and Lady Yakkers kayaking club. They also volunteered in many other local organizations. Jo enjoyed skiing, snowshoeing, biking, kayaking, and traveling. Most of all, Jo valued the time she spent with family and friends. In October 2020, Jo and John moved to Eden Prairie, MN to be near their family. Jo is survived by her son, John (Kristin) Reichling of Edina, MN; her grandchildren Joseph Reichling of Minneapolis, MN, Christopher Reichling of Denver, CO; her sister, Earlene Hulshizer of Williford, AR. Jo was preceded in death by her husband John, her parents (Earl and Laura) and her daughter, Jackie. Jo's life and contributions will be remembered privately with family and in the coming months with friends. If desired, donations in memory may be made to one of the following organizations which she supported: Camp Manito-wish YMCA Summer Camp https://manito-wish.org/ North Lakeland Discovery Center https://www.discoverycenter.net/ St. Jude Children's Research Hospital https://www.stjude.org/
