Mary Roughneen (nee Gill), 90, of Lyndhurst, died on Monday, October 13, 2025, at her home, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born April 4, 1935, in Hoboken, NJ. The youngest of six children, she lived at the family home on Willow Avenue and attended Our Lady of Grace Elementary School in Hoboken and St. Michael's High School in Union City. She met and married Thomas Mark Roughneen before moving to Lyndhurst to raise four children. They became active members of the Sacred Heart Church, and their children all attended Sacred Heart Grammar School where friendships and family bonds blossomed with the other parish families. Mary was a member of the Lyndhurst Garden Club and both the Mt. Carmel Senior Group and Lyndhurst Senior Group. An avid reader, Mary was a frequent visitor to the Lyndhurst Public Library and could often be found enjoying a good book from her favorite chair on the front porch of her home. Mary always had a smile and kind word for you and your family when she saw you. Her reading chair is now empty, yet we will hold her memory and her love for us close in our hearts.
Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband of 43 years, Thomas Mark Roughneen and daughter, Kathleen Roughneen, as well her parents Martin and Delia Gill and six siblings, James Gill, Eileen Bolbach, Martin Gill, Tom Gill, and Rita DeClesis. She is survived by three daughters, Marian Roughneen, Barbara Seickendick (Ray), and Lynn Serra; seven grandchildren, Kerry Gaul (Chris), Thomas Seickendick (Nicole), Brandon Covello, Colin Covello (Natalie), Anna Serra, Maria Serra, and Mark Serra; and three great-grandchildren, Ella Gaul, Ava Gaul, and Sean Seickendick and by many extended loving family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation held at Nazare Memorial Home, Inc, on Friday, October 17, 2025, from 3PM – 7PM. All will gather at the funeral home on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at 9AM then to Sacred Heart Church, Lyndhurst where at 10AM her funeral mass will be offered. Interment to follow, Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. You may express condolences to Mary's family by using our tribute wall.
